BIO

Troy Margrie is Professor of Systems Neuroscience at University College London. His research has focused on understanding the fundamental properties of neuronal circuits, the representation of sensory and motor information and the role of synaptic inputs and membrane biophysics in coding by single neurons and circuits in the mammalian brain in vivo. He has elucidated novel pathways in the brain and demonstrated how internal information is integrated with external sensory information in the primary sensory cortex. Many of these discoveries were based on his pioneering methods, such as performing the first intracellular recordings from the intact brain of the mouse. His team led the development of an open-access computational neuroanatomy suite for automated registration, segmentation and cell counting across multiple atlases and species, including primates, for whole-brain connectivity mapping at cellular resolution.
